2025 Jean Banchet Awards: Discover the Exciting New Pizza Category and Finalists!

 The finalists in 13 categories for the prestigious Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence were revealed on Monday, introducing a new and exciting category dedicated to pizza.

“The Banchet Awards are always a bit humorous; we like to poke fun at ourselves, so we thought it would be amusing to name four pizza places in Chicago,” said Michael Muser, the host and organizer of the Banchet Awards. “We considered what we wanted to convey—whether to honor different styles or something else. Ultimately, the panel created a list that they felt best represented the pizzas that people are craving this year.”

Muser, who co-owns the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Ever, noted that the categories have transformed over the years to truly reflect the city’s rich and diverse culinary scene—not just the upscale dining spots or renowned chefs. On Friday, he drove around the city to personally inform the nominated chefs and restaurants. He particularly enjoys the Best Counter Service and Best Neighborhood Restaurant awards.
